The 1980 Olympic Games and its Reflection of Soviet Foreign Policy

1 Abstract The thesis examines the Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980 and their subsequent boycott. This significant sporting event was adversely affected by the Soviet military intervention in Afghanistan at the end of 1979. In response, the USA and several other countries decided to boycott the Moscow Olympics, with a total of 65 nations choosing not to participate, making it the largest boycott in the history of the Olympic Games. To understand the context, the international political situation in the 1980s is analyzed, along with the subsequent reasons for the boycott. The thesis also provides important facts regarding the organization of the Games (such as facilities, venues, the Olympic Village), the Soviet Union's preparations for the 22nd Olympic Games in Moscow, and the subsequent response of Soviet diplomacy to the boycott. A section of the thesis is dedicated to three athletes, of whom only one could participate in the Olympics. The objective of this work was not only to describe Soviet foreign policy but also to illustrate how sports can be exploited for propaganda. Title: Discussion about the organization of the Olympics in the Czech Republic: opinions of selected groups Objectives: The main objective of the thesis is to determine the current attitude of selected groups of the Czech public towards a possible future candidacy for hosting the Olympic Games in the Czech Republic by means of a questionnaire survey. Methods: This survey describes the current attitude of selected groups in Czech society. 478 participants took part in the survey and subscribed via direct links to the questionnaires. All questions were answered by 298 respondents who were divided into predefined groups. The selection of the groups was based on consultation with experts across the sports sector. The survey was conducted in the form of an electronic questionnaire that used a variety of question types, including Likert scale and semantic differential methods. The questionnaire was created through the Survio platform and subsequently disseminated on social media and sent via email to selected groups. Title: Discussion about the organization of the Olympics in the Czech Republic: opinions of selected groups Objectives: The main goal of the work is to find out the current attitude of selected groups of the Czech public to a possible future candidacy for the Olympic Games with help of a questionnaire survey. Methods: The work used electronic questioning in the form of an Internet questionnaire in which various types of questions were used, including methods of the Likert scale and semantic differential. Results: The thesis summarizes the current attitude of selected groups of the Czech public to the potential future candidacy of the Czech Republic for the organizer of the Olympic Games. The results also include recommendations for other author of the topic. The results of the work could help potential future organizers and applicants for candidacy for better orient themselves in the current opinion of selected groups of the Czech public and improve their chances of success. Title: The Environmental aspects of the Olympic Games Objectives: The main aim of this thesis is to explore the importace of environment within the Olympic Games. The organizational solutions summary defines the formal requirements, the real efficiency of this effort is tracked and crucial factors that influence current situation are identified. Methods: The qualitative research was based on the strategic documents content analysis. These findings are enriched by controlled interviews with members of Czech Olympic Movement. This bachelor thesis is a commented translation of a chosen French text into Czech. It is consisted of two parts. The first section is a translation of the second and part of the third chapters of a non-fiction text, Jeux olympiques: La flamme de l'exploit, that is about the history of the Olympic Games written by Françoise Hache-Bissette. The second, theoretical part, includes commentary that is consisted of detailed translation analysis of the text (focusing on intrertextual and extratextual factors of the original), translation strategy, description of the used translation procedures and typology of the translation aspects. The commentary deals with the specific examples that are taken from the original and the translated text.
Summer Olympic Games in the Cold War (Moscow 1980 and Los Angeles 1984)

The work deals with the history of the Olympic Games, which were held in Moscow in 1980 and four years later in Los Angeles. These two major sporting events have been very affected by the political situation. The Soviet military intervention in Afghanistan in the end of 1979 led to the boycott of the Olympic Games from the US and a number of other States. I t was the largest boycott of the history of the games.Also indirectly led to the boycott of the games in Los Angeles, the Soviet Union and its satellites four years later. It is therefore both Olympics history analyzed in political context internationally. In this respect are the most important relations between the Soviet Union and the United States, mentioned are the other important events of international politics in the 1970s. years, including the Soviet-Afghan relations. Olympism with respect to the Intellectual Property law Intellectual property is a branch of law affecting, with various intensity, a lot of fields of human life and, together with technical development and globalisation of human life, is becoming more and more topical, which, vice versa, implicates an intensive development of the branch of law itself. Olympism is a traditional concept evoking sports ideas, profound experience of performance based on physical and mental preparedness and capacity, emotions and in a way also a life philosophy and intellectual values, but also, more and more, a significant economic factor. This thesis is based on a strong respect to both of these concepts, namely to the intellectual property and to the branch of law studying this field, analysing and developing it, and to the Olympism and its persisting undisputable sense and effect, and on the conviction about coherence of these notions both in terms of law and in terms of ordinary human life. Analysis of the bidding process of Prague for Summer Olympic Games 2016

Title: Analysis of the bidding process of Prague for Summer Olympic Games 2016 Objectives: The aim of this thesis is the analysis of Prague's bid for Summer Olympic Games 2016, the following determination of main causes of his failure and than a suggestion of the future steps leading towards the future organisation of Olympic Games. Methods: We have used three managerial methods in this thesis. It was at first the system approach that identifies all stakeholders and their relations, which are all connected. This method permits to understand our subject as a complete system. After that SWOT analysis of the bid and the Fishbone diagram was used to identify main causes of the bid's failure. Results: Main six causes were identified that have caused the failure of the Prague's bid. These causes are more a kind of internal serious problems that show that Prague is not ready yet for organising Olympic Games. Following suggestions for future steps are reacting on these results. The aim of that is to make a long-term strategy to improve the environment and relations between the sport and state and prepare good conditions in the country for the next Olympic bid.
